Título: Translational research in inherited arrhythmias.
IP: Dr. Ramon Brugada Terradellas
Resumen del proyecto: The initial project of the GenCardio consortium is the creation of a map of cardiovascular genetics diseases in Spain, focusing first on arrhythmogenic diseases with structurally normal heart, the REGistry of INherited Arrhythmias (REGINA). Thus, the REGINA study will include all patients and family members with diagnosis of BrS, LQTS, SQTS, CPVT and early stages of ARVC. REGINA is the main body of this proposal, and is the first of its kind in Spain. It intends to obtain a detailed characterization of these potentially lethal diseases in the Spanish population. A second parallel project in this proposal is the study of idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) and syncope of unknown origin and family members. This will serve as a replication study, to know whether the clinical and genetic algorithms used in REGINA allow better characterization of these two challenging entities. A third cohort of individuals will be enrolled for control purposes. The proposal will enroll patients from the participating centers in Spain. We anticipate enrolling 1200 patients with inherited arrhythmias, 200 patients with cardiac arrest or syncope at a young age, and 500 controls over 4 years (completed 2012).
