Título: Genetic, environmental and life style factors associated to longevity in the Castilla y León population. Epidemiological study of the Health Sentinel Network
IP: Dr. A.Tomás Vega Alonso
Resumen del proyecto: The ageing index has increased in Spain in the last decades, as well as the life expectancy and the proportion of long-lived people, aged 95 and more, which reaches the 0.34% of the Spanish population (150 000 persons approximately). This project aims to describe a representative population of nonagenarians-centenarians of the region of Castilla y León and to identify the environmental, life style and socioeconomic factors related with the health status and their interaction with the genetic information. The Health Sentinel Network of Castilla y León will be the responsible for the field research in a sample of 1028 persons aged 95 and more and the Spanish National DNA bank Carlos III and the Human Genotyping Unit of the CNIO will participate in the sample analysis, data exploitation and interpretation. Epidemiological and life style data will be described and correlated with known genetic markers for longevity. We will carry on a validation analysis with a Spanish general population collection from the BNADN, and prospectively, with collections from other Spanish regions with sentinel networks. It will be studied the relationship among the genetic markers and no genetic factors with the health status and quality of life in this longevous population. The limitation of working with a small, aged, dependent population with potential cognitive impairment will be compensate by the confidence, proximity, accessibility and knowledge of family doctors and nurses of the Sentinel Network, ideal tool for this research.
