Resumen del proyecto: Adrenomedulli (AM) is an angiogenic and vasodilator peptide which acts through cAMP elevation. The gene codifying for this protein is located in chromosome 11p15.4 and is expressed in numerous organs and tissues, including the cardiovascular system. Plasma levels of AM get elevated in patients with cancer, inflammation, obesity, hypertension, renal failure, diabetes and heart disease. Some recent findings propose that high levels of AM in the blood area predictive marker for progression in patients with chronic renal disease, mortality due to septic shock and in cardiovascular problems.
Recently, a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) has been discovered in the 3’ non-coding region of AM, named rs11042725, which influences the circulating levels of AM, in such a way that people having a “T” in this locus show lower AM plasma levels than people carrying a “C”. Therefore, our hypothesis suggests that this polymorphism may have a prognostic value in people at risk oncological or cardiovascular disease.
To test our hypothesis we want to analyze the presence of this SNP in a large population of cancer and cardiovascular patients and in an age-matched healthy population.
